Saba University School of Medicine
Founded in 1992, Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM) has delivered medical education and training for 3,500+ MD program graduates. SUSOM physicians then go on to practice in the U.S., Canada and internationally.
The picturesque island of Saba provides an ideal Basic Sciences (semesters 1-5) learning environment, offering peace and quiet when it’s time to learn and exciting outdoor activities, such as tropical hiking and scuba-diving, when it’s time to unwind.
Successful SUSOM MD program students then undertake Clinical Medicine rotations (semesters 6-10) at associated teaching hospitals, clinics and medical centers in the U.S. (including ACGME-approved locations), and at select elective rotation sites in Canada.
Saba University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO), which is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). SUSOM is the only medical school in the Caribbean to meet the rigorous standards of European accreditation.
Partnership overview
Through a partnership with Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM), University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) is now able to offer students studying in the Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree program the option to elect for the Pre-Med Pathway.
Via this pathway, UNF students in the HBSc Biomed degree program have the opportunity to enter the MD program at SUSOM after their third year of undergraduate studies, once they have successfully earned 90 credits.
Then, after students successfully complete the first two semesters of the four-year SUSOM Doctor of Medicine program (10 semesters total), UNF will count the completed medical school coursework towards the final 30 credits remaining in their undergraduate program and award them their HBSc Biomed degree.
