Frequently asked questions
What are the Canadian admission requirements for undergraduate programs at UNF?
Admission requirements vary slightly depending on your province, but all Canadian applicants must hold a secondary school diploma from their province or territory and meet UNF's academic standards. Ontario students require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum overall average of 70%, including six Grade 12 4U or 4M-level courses with ENG4U and one 4U Math course. Students from other provinces must meet the equivalent requirements for their province.
Are admission requirements the same across all Canadian provinces?
The academic standards are consistent across Canada, and the specific course and grade requirements are the same regardless of your province. Each province and territory has its own secondary school diploma equivalent to Ontario's OSSD, and UNF accepts all of them. Outside of Ontario, applicants need a provincial secondary school diploma, a minimum overall average of 70%, and coursework equivalent to six Ontario Grade 12 4U or 4M-level courses, including ENG4U and one 4U Math course.
Do Canadian applicants need to prove English language proficiency?
Most Canadian applicants are exempt from English language proficiency (ELP) requirements, provided their previous studies were conducted in English. Secondary school applicants must show they’ve completed one or more consecutive years of study with English as the language of instruction. Post-secondary applicants must show either one or more full years of study in English at a post-secondary institution, or completion of a credit-bearing academic English course from a Canadian post-secondary institution. If these conditions apply to you, no separate ELP test is required.
Which Canadian provinces' high school transcripts does UNF accept?
UNF accepts transcripts from all Canadian provinces and territories. Every province and territory has a secondary school diploma that is recognized as equivalent to Ontario's OSSD, though the names and specific graduation requirements may differ.
What documents do I need to submit with my Canadian application?
You will need to submit the following with your application:
- A completed application form
- Official high school transcript
- Documentation of current courses, such as a Credit Summary sheet from your Guidance Office or a Confirmation of Enrolment from your current post-secondary institution (if you have not yet graduated)
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended, if applicable
- Proof of residency (e.g., passport)
- Proof of English language proficiency, if applicable
- Certified translations of any required documents not originally in English
I’ve completed some university courses at another Canadian institution -- can I transfer credits to UNF?
Yes, transfer credit assessments are available. When completing your application, simply indicate that you wish to request a transfer credit assessment. Once you have applied, received an offer of admission, and paid your deposit, our transfer credit team will review your previous coursework and determine which credits may be applicable toward your UNF program. See our articulation and credit transfer partners.
