Academics
What makes UNF’s academic programs unique?
Thrive in the digital age with an education that sets you up to succeed . We don’t just offer degrees; we launch careers in a world driven by innovation and technology.
With industry-driven curriculum, our academic programs are designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to excel in the modern world of work. You’ll learn the cutting-edge skills employers are actively seeking right now, and for the future. Our approach to learning is built around three core principles: accessible, digitally focused, and relevant.

Accessible
We use a quarter system with four terms throughout the year instead of semesters. While terms are shorter, workload is comparable, with up to four courses per term versus five in a semester system. This offers year-round operation, flexible scheduling, more work/study opportunities, and additional entry points. UNF's admissions are flexible, recognizing diverse learning. Credit transfer is streamlined, and programs are offered on-campus, online, and in hybrid formats, maximizing accessibility.

Digitally focused
An underlying theme of our academic programs is digital fluency, preparing students for the rapidly evolving job market. The curriculum focuses on in-demand skills, supported by online learning and content management systems. We aim to be a zero-textbook cost university, utilizing open educational resources. Class time prioritizes application and problem-solving, with exploration of emerging technologies like VR/AR. The goal is engaged, lifelong learners.

Relevant
While the new world of work requires some new skills, transferable skills such as active listening, critical thinking, communication, social perceptiveness, and time management are always relevant. We instill these invaluable skills into programs as learning outcomes, embedding them into courses across the curriculum. Work-integrated learning (WIL) goes beyond traditional co-ops, offering applied research, challenge-based learning, internships, field placements, and service learning. Community partnerships with organizations like the Niagara Falls Innovation Hub, enhances WIL opportunities.
