Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Applicants who have completed a secondary school program (high school) are required to meet the following guidelines depending on the location of their graduation.

Applicants from Ontario will be considered based on the following general requirements:   

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) 
    • Six Grade 12 4U or 4M-level courses, including 4U English and a 4U Math 
      • Minimum overall grade average of 70% on best six Grade 12 4U/4M-level courses

        Must meet English language proficiency requirements.

        Secondary school graduates from provinces other than Ontario are required to have:

        • Provincial secondary school diploma  
          • Grade 12 courses, including an Ontario 4U Math and 4U English equivalent, with an overall grade average of 70%

            Must meet English language proficiency requirements. 

            Secondary school graduates from outside of Canada are required to have:

            • Senior secondary school credential equivalent to the OSSD with an academically rigorous final year
              • Senior year courses, including an Ontario 4U Math and 4U English equivalent, with a minimum overall average of 70%

                Must meet English language proficiency requirements.

                Students who have completed at least 24 credit hours of academic post-secondary credits (one full-time year at the tertiary level) at a recognized institution may be reviewed for admission based on their post-secondary studies and require a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) or C average to be admitted. 

                Must meet English language proficiency requirements (if applicable) 

                Applicants completing an OSSD graduation program from an Ontario Accredited Adult and Continuing Education program will be considered for admissions based on the following general requirements:

                • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or senior secondary school credential equivalent, with an academically rigorous final year and a minimum overall average of 70% or equivalent on the local grading scale. 

                  The university may consider an applicant for mature student admission if the applicant does not otherwise qualify for admission but demonstrates academic abilities equivalent to those of Ontario high school graduates verified through completion of an approved equivalency test.

                  Such applicants must: 

                  • Be over 19 years of age on or before the first day of classes 
                    • Have not achieved the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or its equivalent 
                      • Be approved by the Registrar 
                        • Must meet English language proficiency requirements (if applicable) 

                          Students with a bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution may be admitted to a second undergraduate degree program. The principal areas of study or academic emphasis of the second degree must be distinct from that of the first degree. Applicants for admission to a second degree require a minimum 2.00 CGPA (on 4.33 scale) on their last two years of study in their first bachelor’s degree

                          Must meet English language proficiency requirements (if applicable).

                          All applicants to undergraduate programs must submit:  

                          • A completed application form 
                            • An official high school transcript  
                              • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (if any) 
                                • Documents outlining current courses
                                  • Such as a high school credit summary sheet from your guidance office or a confirmation of enrolment form from your current post-secondary institution (if any)
                                  • Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable) 
                                    • Certified translations of any required documents not in English 

                                      Applicants who completed their secondary education (high school) outside Canada must also submit:

                                      • Documentation confirming their secondary level or high school completion was awarded, if not already indicated on official transcripts 
                                        • A credential evaluation from a recognized service, if required by the Registrar

                                          Applicants whose first language is not English, or who have received their education in a language other than English, must provide evidence of English language proficiency at a university level by completing an English proficiency score or qualifying for one of our exemptions.

                                          The deadline for your payment for deposit will be specified in your offer letter.

                                          If an applicant fails to meet any of the deadlines above, they must defer their application to the next available intake. 

                                          The above deadlines are only applicable for UNF. International applicants would need to refer to IRCC regarding any deadlines and/or processing times related to their student visa application.
