In recognition of his extraordinary leadership in international higher education and contributions to the mission of University of Niagara Falls Canada, Professor Li Guishan named Distinguished Fellow

University of Niagara Falls Canada (UNF) is pleased to announce that it has named Professor Li Guishan a Distinguished Fellow in recognition of his extraordinary leadership in international higher education and his significant contributions to advancing global collaboration, cultural understanding, and the mission of the university.

UNF’s Distinguished Fellowship recognizes individuals whose exceptional contributions have advanced the university, higher education, or the broader community through leadership, scholarship, service, and advocacy. The fellowship honours those whose work reflects UNF's commitment to innovation, global engagement, and creating meaningful opportunities for students and society.

"We are very proud to recognize Professor Li Guishan as Distinguished Fellow at UNF," says Dr. David Gray, President and Vice-Chancellor at UNF. "A leader and scholar, his innovative work has built enduring academic and cultural connections between Canada, China and UNF."

Professor Li Guishan is one of China's foremost pioneers in Canada–China educational cooperation. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has dedicated himself to strengthening academic, educational, and cultural relationships between the two countries through leadership, scholarship, and international partnership development.

Professor Li is the founder and inaugural Dean of the International College of Business and Technology at Tianjin University of Technology and has served as Professor of English, Master's Supervisor, and Director of the University's Institute of Multicultural Studies. Among China's earliest scholars of Canadian studies, he has authored numerous publications on Canadian society, multiculturalism, and cross-cultural understanding, while also leading collaborative translation projects that have introduced Chinese culture to English-speaking audiences.

“I am deeply honoured to be recognized as the inaugural Distinguished Fellow of University of Niagara Falls Canada," says Professor Li. "For more than four decades, I have believed in the value of education to build bridges between people, cultures, and countries. My connection to UNF is also personally shaped by longstanding friendship and collaboration with Chancellor Cyndi McLeod and President David Gray, whose leadership reflects the same commitment to international education and partnership that has guided my own career. I look forward to continuing to support UNF, strengthening its connections across the international academic community, and contributing to the Niagara Falls community that has welcomed the university so warmly.”

Throughout his career, Professor Li has established innovative Canada–China academic partnerships, creating dual-degree programs, student mobility opportunities, faculty exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives with leading Canadian institutions. His longstanding relationships with Royal Roads University, Trinity Western University, Thompson Rivers University, and University of Niagara Falls Canada have helped expand international educational opportunities for students and strengthen enduring institutional partnerships.

Congratulations, Professor Li!
