Raquel Benitez Rojas will launch The Art and Science of Virtual Content Creation: Behind the Screen with event on campus this Friday
A new resource will soon be added to the field of digital media and immersive technology with the launch of Raquel Benitez Rojas’s newly edited book this week.
An accomplished editor and author, Benitez Rojas, Associate Dean of the Master of Arts in Digital Media and Global Communications program at University of Niagara Falls Canada, examines the intersection of creativity and technology in crafting immersive digital experiences in her latest release. The Art and Science of Virtual Content Creation: Beyond the Screen is a wide-ranging guide that arrives at a moment when virtual, augmented, and mixed reality are reshaping industries from entertainment to education.
“Virtual content creation is one of the most exciting and consequential conversations happening in our field right now, and I’m thrilled to be contributing to it,” said Benitez Rojas. “The questions this book grapples like – how we create meaningfully, ethically, and effectively in virtual spaces – are ones our students and industry partners are navigating every day. Being part of an institution like University of Niagara Falls Canada, that is so deeply committed to digital learning and innovation made editing this collection feel like a natural next step.”
The book covers the full lifecycle of virtual content creation, from initial concept development through to post-production. Readers are introduced to essential technical skills including 3D modelling, animation, spatial audio, and interactive design, alongside real-world case studies drawn from industry experience. The collection also examines emerging technologies as future drivers of virtual media, such as procedural generation, artificial intelligence, and blockchain. It takes seriously the ethical dimensions of the field, addressing questions of authenticity, representation, and privacy in increasingly lifelike digital environments.
Edited with both accessibility and depth in mind, Beyond the Screen is designed to serve a broad audience. Newcomers seeking foundational knowledge will enjoy the book, as will professionals working in digital arts, game development, film, UX design, and media. It will also appeal to academic researchers and students, like Benitez Rojas’ own, in digital media programs. The book’s dual emphasis on theoretical frameworks and practical strategies makes it a versatile resource across classroom and industry settings.
Benitez Rojas will celebrate the release with a book launch event on campus on Friday, June 12 from 3-5 p.m. Open to students, staff, and faculty the engaging event will feature a panel discussion on virtual content creation, emerging technologies, and digital storytelling, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
The Art and Science of Virtual Content Creation: Behind the Screen was published by CRC Press and is available through Routledge.
