Our Educational Development team is driven by the commitment to establish UNF as a leader in university teaching innovation and student success. We work with faculty to implement innovative, inclusive, and accessible pedagogical practices that support belonging, engagement, growth mindset, and student success. Our support includes lesson planning and course design, active learning strategies, assessment techniques, effective engagement with AI for students and faculty, and integrating technology into the classroom.

  • Engages in teaching and learning research to stay abreast of educational trends and evidence-based practices

Instructional Designers at UNF play a crucial role in developing effective and engaging learning experiences. Some key responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborating with faculty subject matter experts to plan, design, and create course materials  
  • Conducting quality assurance to ensure that courses are pedagogically sound, accessible, and that their evaluations are appropriately aligned with learning outcomes 
  • Supporting the development and delivery of exceptional hybrid learning experiences by helping faculty integrate online learning with in-person learning to elevate student engagement and success 
  • Leading the evaluation and refinement of existing courses based on feedback from multiple sources including students and faculty, ultimately contributing to improved educational practices and learning experiences 
  • Ensuring that course materials are accessible, inclusive, and diverse to create equitable learning opportunities for all

The eLearning team at UNF plays a pivotal role in introducing new technologies to both faculty and students by emphasizing user-centered practices, robust support, and ensuring the successful adoption of innovative tools that enhance teaching and learning outcomes. This includes:

  • Evaluating emerging tools for their relevance and alignment with institutional goals and conducting pilot programs 
  • Gathering feedback to refine implementation strategies 
  • Supporting new technology adoptions by offering workshops, tutorials, and just-in-time videos   
  • Creating accessible resources to build confidence in using new technologies effectively 
  • Ensuring smooth onboarding for students and faculty by monitoring FAQs and supporting channels to ensure smooth usage 
  • Providing ongoing communication through feedback loops and collaborative forums to help the eLearning team identify challenges early and adapt solutions to meet the diverse needs of both faculty and students

Courseware Developers (CDs) at UNF are software developers who work as innovators and trusted collaborators in designing and developing digital learning experiences.  

CDs consider students and faculty as primary stakeholders, collaborating closely with Instructional Designers to design and build digital educational content that aligns with instructional goals and reflects both UNF’s innovative approach to teaching and learning and its commitment to educational excellence. CDs serve the following functions:

  • Develop and deploy online courses in Cascade (UNF’s learning management system) 
  • Collaborate with Instructional Designers to create engaging interactive materials that inspire student motivation and provide meaningful opportunities for self-assessment 
  • Ensure courseware quality and functionality through quality assurance testing  
  • Conduct research and development to integrate technology that aligns with instructional design requirements and aspirations 
  • Develop tools to streamline online course development
